Max Verstappen Takes Pole Position at the Mexico GP
- The two-time world champion got his first pole position in Mexico; Sergio Pérez will start from the second row, having qualified 0.353 seconds behind his teammate.
- The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez welcomed a crowd of 140,987 on the second day of F1 activity.
Max Verstappen set the fastest lap with a time of 1:17.775, taking pole position at the
FORMULA 1 MEXICO CITY GRAND PRIX Presented by Heineken before a roaring crowd at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodriguez.
The Red Bull Racing driver put in a perfect lap in his last outing in Q3 and achieved his first pole position at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. The two-time world champion made a strong statement by setting the two best laps of the Saturday session.
Sharing the front row for the Mexico GP will be George Russell, who set a time 0.304 seconds slower than the Dutchman’s. Lewis Hamilton will start third after a great qualifying session for the Mercedes team.
The Mexican Sergio Perez is fourth, 0.353 seconds behind his Red Bull Racing teammate. Checo had the fans’ unwavering support from the cheering fans who packed the grandstands all along the track.
Carlos Sainz was the best of the two Ferraris and qualified fifth ahead of a surprising Valtteri Bottas in his Alfa Romeo and Charles Leclerc in the second Ferrari. Rounding out the top 10 were McLaren's Lando Norris, and the two Alpines driven by Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon.
Verstappen will receive a special award featuring certified replicas of Pedro and Ricardo Rodriguez's racing helmets. The special pole position award, which will be presented on Sunday, marks the 60
th anniversary of the first Mexico GP in Mexico City.
The ever-amazing F1ESTA brought 140,987 fans to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez on Saturday to enjoy Formula 1 and the support races.
In the Freightliner Legends Cup by Fibra UNO, the race that has reunited some of the biggest names in Indy car history, the Mexican Michel Jourdain Jr. remains the man to beat for Sunday’s race after topping the timesheets once again, ahead of Luis “Chapulín” Díaz and Alex Tagliani.
