Que no haya presión para Lewis, es muy positivo para Checo

Mexico City, October 29, 2015

THE FACT THAT LEWIS DOESN’T FEEL PRESSURE, IS GOOD NEWS FOR CHECO.

"My strategy is always the maximum attack”

Those were the first words of the World Champion, Lewis Hamilton, this Thursday during the press conference held at the opening of the FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO DE MEXICO 2015®, in the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

When asked about his strategy for the last three races of the season, Mercedes star, said he feels really inspired by the return of the FORMULA 1® to Mexico for this weekend: “It hasn’t been here in 23 years (FORMULA 1®), neither my colleagues, I am so thrilled with this chance to participate. We love the idea of leaving a mark on the FORMULA ®1 return to Mexico, so that’s the goal”.

Has it crossed your mind becoming the world champion for the third time?

“Absolutely, I’m aware we have a race this weekend, that’s why I stay in control and try to keep myself prepared. I still can’t believe it but every day I pinch myself just to see if I am awake or not, I really barely believe it. I arrived to Mexico yesterday and I start working from the beginning focused on the race, so I haven’t thought of it that much”, said Lewis.

“I usually have a balanced approach, son I don’t feel I have to change a thing. I don’t feel pressured for this weekend, I only want to enjoy the experience and that’s exactly what I’m going to do”.

Next to Hamilton was Force India driver, Sergio “Checo” Perez, for whom the comeback to Mexico will be a totally different experience.

“For me, the chance to compete in my country is a dream come true”, stated the 25-year old driver. “This is something very special: ¡you know we, Mexicans are! Sunday will definitely be the most important of my entire career and I hope to get a great result to share it with all our fans that will be present”.

Mexico is going to be an experience totally different for the younger generation of FORMULA 1® drivers. At the conference we also found the 21-year old driver, Carlos Sainz, from Toro Rosso, who has enjoyed giving a long battle together with his even younger teammate, Max Verstappen, during the whole season.

“It has been a great year for both”, he said. “We are learning a lot and personally I have enjoyed each of the races, especially the last two. We both must take advantage of the last three races to keep learning and it is important to finish the season with great results”, he concluded.

There was also in the room, his Spanish compatriot, the two-time World Champion, Fernando Alonso, who has struggled with McLaren Honda on the first season. “I was here a year ago and today the circuit is totally ready for the Grand Prix, so many things have changed” he said.

“Having the cars ready is a great challenge for the engineers”, he assured. “We will enjoy the final stretch of the stadium and it will be exciting to be so close to thousands of people, we expect to offer a great show for everyone. The passion and vibe we have experienced in recent days here in Mexico have been very special, we know how much they love FORMULA 1® and if Checo has a good weekend, we will have a fabulous event”, finished Alonso.

Pastor Maldonado, Lotus driver, is also anxious to enjoy the Latin atmosphere. The 30-year old Venezuelan has higher expectations for this race than for any other. “It will be very special for me” said, “for I am so close to my country and I have many friends here”.

“It is hard to predict it without seeing the circuit from the car, but I am pretty sure it’s going to be a great show”, added.

Perez was asked if he felt more pressure for the legacy of motorsports in Mexico.

“I didn’t grow up with the influence of a Mexican driver, but I know that Rodriguez Brothers were very popular. They were big: unfortunately, they died really young. I believe they still had too much to offer to sports in general as to FORMULA 1®. I only have to focus on my performance every weekend, and once I put my helmet on, I know it’s time to pay attention on the regular procedure each practice, qualification and so on. It works for me as a motivation to do a great job next Sunday”, he said.
